Marhaba Café - A place to say Hello!

The aim of this pop-up café is to facilitate the opportunity for Syrian refugee families to connect with each other and the wider community.

40 people and their children attended including community members, professionals joined us in welcoming them to the community.  The buffet of Syrian food prepared was delicious and included traditional rice dishes, Arabic coffee and homemade sweets to follow all kindly prepared by the families themselves.

The families wanted to say thank you to the community for their hospitality and felt that preparing a meal was the best way to do this.  Food can be a great way to connect with others beyond cultural differences and language barriers.  Sharing food together reminded the families of home.

We are hoping to run the cafe on a regular basis in the future and connect with the wider community of West-Lancashire.
