Armistice Day 2020

Remembrance Sunday means so much for everyone within the UK. From the people who fell during our past wars to those still serving and the ones that have got the t-shirt. Birchwood wanted to do their bit.

On the morning of Remembrance Sunday, Birchwood had the honour of being able to lay our own wreath down at our local war memorial. Our Social Inclusion Coordinator and veteran, David Scott, was there to do the honours. A very emotional day for many and we were so privileged to be part of it.

Once we had paid our respects, the second half of our day began. Thanks to the generosity of our community and the time and effort of a local couple, we had 52 home cooked roast dinners to deliver. With the importance of the day, it was fitting to be able to deliver and hand out the first 12 roast dinners to local veterans and ex-service personnel within the Skelmersdale area. 10 roast dinners went to our Birchwood residents, with the rest going to families and individuals that have connections with our Birchwood Ennerdale services.

The feedback was fantastic, and all roast dinners got a ten out of ten from everyone who ate one. Massive thank you to Lisa and Andy Jones for taking the time out of your Sunday to make these beautiful dinners. We know where to come for our Sunday roast from now on, thanks again guys.
