Why I love working at Junk Food Cafe My name is Dave and I organise the Junk Food Café that takes place every week. My role involves a lot of different elements including coordinating all our volunteers, planning meals, collecting donated food and setting up the cafe each session. There is always a lot to do and we want each Café to be a welcoming place for our customers - and of course we want the food to be tasty too! I have to say that I am really pleased with the way the Café has developed. We started off small in the beginning and have grown it so that we are intercepting as much waste food as we can. Our customers come from all over the town, sit and share a meal and talk. The Café has a lovely friendly atmosphere, so people keep coming back. Each month we nominate one of our volunteers as Volunteer of the month. Our volunteers all work so hard and give their time and energy to this great project. I seriously cannot thank them enough. We have just set up tea-time Café at Tanhouse Community Centre that doubles up as a homework club for children and young people in the community. It just goes to show how a Café like ours can respond to the needs in the local area.
