Our first Community Food For All Event took place yesterday at the Tanhouse Community Centre. A special thanks from all of us to the students and staff from the West Lancashire College who helped us so much with the food preparation and a massive thank you to Oaks Church for all their help too.
Our Community Food For All Initiative intercepts food that would otherwise go to waste. The food is provided by Tesco`s in Burscough, Marks and Spencer’s in Ormskirk and from our local schools; then local volunteers transform the food so kindly donated into healthy and nutritious meals for anyone in need. There is also a food bank which is made into hampers for delivery to the local needy members of our community or can be collected by visitors on the Initiative days.
As Stella Connell, Birchwood Manager explained, “We have had fantastic support from our local community today and not only did we reduce food waste but we got to know people and volunteers from around the Skelmersdale area. We hope that our initiative will grow from strength to strength and we look forward to seeing you all again next week”.
Our next Community Food Event will take place next Wednesday 1st February at the Tanhouse Community Centre – 12 midday until 2pm!
